Honesty

Anyone who's seen enough episodes of any long running sitcom will tell you that total honesty will only blow up in your face. Why do I still crave the chance to totally express my point of view, show my feelings and act on them? Why do I cringe when I am asked to present dubious information that no one really wants to see, its only effect being the reinforcement of the status quo? Why do I want to deny that to lead is to lie?

And here's the most confounding question: Why do people ask other people for their honest opinion, usually at the height of vulnerability? No one wants to hear it no matter how useful it is.

Maybe I'll blame my dad and his farmer's ways, only he isn't always forthcoming with his opinion, even when it's badly needed. I can't blame Billy Joel, although it's tempting. Sunday school. Yeah, I'll blame Sunday school.
